Fear of ridicule. The Gelotofobia of Thais. ENOCH

Gelotofobia: Laughter is an innate emotional expression in humans. For this reason, laughing at others is also considered a universal phenomenon. However, some people that laugh at them gives them an extreme fear that their social lives very difficult. This is what is known as gelotofobia , a condition as published by the journal Humor, applies equally to all cultures. This conclusion was reached several dozen researchers from 73 countries , including two English, after performing a questionnaire to assess the presence of gelotofobia in a sample of 22,610 people . " There are many reasons why some people laugh at others," explains Victor Rubio, a psychologist at the Autonomous University of Madrid and co-author of the study. According to experts, individuals can be classified into several dimensions involved in the fear of being laughed at yourself and include: 1. reactions of insecurity, that is, trying to conceal from others the lack of confidence in yourself or 2. believe that one is unintentionally funny, and 3. reactions in avoidance of situations which have laughed at you. Although this is common in all cultures , the study identifies some differences. For example, countries like Turkmenistan and Cambodia out for the reactions of insecurity, while the people of Iraq, Egypt and Jordan tend to avoid situations in which they laughed. Another curious fact highlights the study is that Finnish citizens are the safest in the world since they are the least suspect that if someone laughs at his presence because he is making them (8.5%) while in that same situation 80% of Thais are gelatofóbicos as they are almost entirely convinced that they are responsible for the laughter you hear.
